Third Space Social - After Work Before Home

Événement

**What's a third place?** The term comes from sociologist Ray Oldenburg. Your first place is home and your second place is work. Your third place is everywhere else you go to be around people: the café where the barista knows your order, the pub where you always end up chatting with someone new, the park bench with the regulars. Nobody has to be there, and it shouldn't cost much to show up. You might come with friends, bump into someone you half know, and leave with a new friend. That's the idea behind this meetup. We want to be a third place for people in the city, somewhere easy to walk into and hard to leave without meeting someone.

About this map

Montréal has a rich cultural offering, but information is scattered across websites, social networks, noticeboards and posters. Getting an overview can be difficult. Montréal en culture aims to simplify discovery by bringing cultural activities together in all their variety. The project is also inspired, with some nostalgia, by the weekly calendar of the cultural magazine View, which featured a varied offering, from shows to talks and from popular events to more unconventional activities. Adding a map, Montréal en culture invites you to explore that richness across the city. Still a prototype, this independent project aims to become an essential reference for cultural outings in Montréal.

The site was originally designed for desktop use. A mobile interface is now available.

A broad understanding of culture

The directory takes a broad view of culture: artistic creation, presentation, heritage, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for discovery or participation. It covers the Montréal urban agglomeration, including its associated islands. Its scope develops with the sources and activities recorded.
