AESTHETIC AMBITION | Creative Survival After Art School

Événement

A conversational workshop led by Hugo Dufour and Tricia Middleton Collectively Hugo Dufour and Tricia Middleton have spent decades observing local and global art milieus within a wide range of contexts. Join them as they discuss recent economic-social-political-artistic trends, thinking through aesthetic ambition and creative survival for artists of all economic backgrounds, questioning unhelpful myths of “what it means to be an artist” along the way. There will be time for a substantial question and answer period in which Dufour and Middleton will offer their time-tested tips and tricks for cultivating a lasting creative practice after art school. About the speakers Hugo Dufour b. 1988, Montréal, Canada. Cultural worker. Lives and works in Montréal. Since 2016, he has been co-running the Céline Bureau art residency for emerging artists. Before all that, he was a curator in many arts festivals. Tricia Middleton b. 1972, Vancouver, Canada. Artist. Lives and works in Montréal. CULTURE MONTRÉAL EN CARTE

About this map

Montréal has a rich cultural offering, but information is scattered across websites, social networks, noticeboards and posters. Getting an overview can be difficult. Montréal en culture aims to simplify discovery by bringing cultural activities together in all their variety. The project is also inspired, with some nostalgia, by the weekly calendar of the cultural magazine View, which featured a varied offering, from shows to talks and from popular events to more unconventional activities. Adding a map, Montréal en culture invites you to explore that richness across the city. Still a prototype, this independent project aims to become an essential reference for cultural outings in Montréal.

The site was originally designed for desktop use. A mobile interface is now available.

A broad understanding of culture

The directory takes a broad view of culture: artistic creation, presentation, heritage, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for discovery or participation. It covers the Montréal urban agglomeration, including its associated islands. Its scope develops with the sources and activities recorded.
